About Us

OUR UNIQUE LOCATION

5 Star Hotel in the Medieval Quarter of Alfama

The Santiago is a family run Boutique Hotel housed in a fully restored 15th century palace. The hotel is snuggled equidistant between St George’s Castle and the beautiful Look-point – Santa Luzia – with views which ripple down the hillside littered with white washed churches, terracotta roof tops and down to the Tagus river – where the blue of the water meets the blue of the sky, all framed in a riot of pink and purple bougainvillea.

At the Santiago, we source locally, incorporate the wonderful local produce in our restaurant Audrey’s, named after our daughter. A fierce believer in animal welfare, sustainability and all things yummy – a beautiful human being that wants to spoil and indulge.

We love our business, where else can you come to work and meet interesting people that goes for our wonderful staff and our dear guests and friends.

Manuel & I have been adopted by Portugal – Manuel is our ultimate communicator, a background in telecoms, engineering and global finance who is actually a poet, a photographer, a lover of books and history and has finally joined us full time as all of the above.   Manuel is Anglo-Portuguese, born in South Africa and I am Dutch, brought up in New Zealand and immigrated here in the late 80’s.  We met, within a week of stepping ‘off the boat’, and the rest is history...

It’s a privilege to tell you about our city, to share this lovely place and hopefully bring a lot of old fashioned hospitality and a little glamour to your holiday.

Looking forward to meeting you soon.

Warm regards from Lisbon

Heleen
